Duterte signs EO to place NFA, PCA, and FPA under Piñol’s supervision
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said President Rodrigo Duterte already signed the Executive Order (EO) to again place the National Food Authority (NFA), the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority (FPA) under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The three agencies, together with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), were taken from the DA by President Benigno Aquino III and placed under the Office of the President.
Piñol said the EO was only signed by Duterte this month, which makes it six months late from the time the President announced the move.
The EO also reorganized the NFA Council, making Piñol its chairman. The NFA Administrator will serve as the council’s vice chairman.
Members of the NFA Council include the Secretary of Finance, the Secretary of Trade and industry, the Director General of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the Social Welfare Secretary, the Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the President of Land Bank, and a farmers’ sector representative appointed by the President.
