Jollibee shares behind the scenes story of how Funko toys came to be
Jollibee’s limited edition Funko toys became such a huge hit among collectors at the recently concluded Asia Pop Comic Con that fans lined up for hours just to get them item.
So much so that even after Comic Con, fans hunted down the toy in select Jollibee branches so the jolly bee could be added to their own roster of Funko icons.
As it turned out, the idea to create a Jollibee Funko pop toy was floated by the fastfood giant to Nikko Lim, the founder of FunkoFunatic Philippines to see how it will sit with people who produce the collectible items in the US.
Nikko said that he immediately emailed Mike Becker, the founder of Funko about creating a Funko Pop doll for the popular fastfood icon to a great response.
Mike was immediately interested because Funko is known for its wide range of characters from television, sports, movies and food franchises. Nikko said that Mike jumped on the idea because the restaurant chain is synonymous with Filipinos and it was also featured as one of the late Anthony Bourdain’s favoritefastfoods in the Philippines.
Nikko said that it’s a good fit and its perfect for Funko and for the partnership to happen was truly a great feat for both brands.
