NFA pushes through with National Grains Industry Week
Amid issues hounding the agency, the National Food Authority (NFA) still pushed through with the annual observance of the National Grains Industry Week (NGIW) by conducting a feeding activity for 150 pre-school children from Barangay Planas in Vasra, Diliman, Quezon City.
To be celebrated until September 26, NGIP was instituted by virtue of Proclamation 1058 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos on August 20, 1997 to give emphasis to the importance of food security and fair trade practices in the grains market.
September 26 also marks the 46th year anniversary of NFA.
This year’s NFA anniversary theme is “Tuloy ang Serbisyo sa Sambayanang Pilipino,” which describes the vital stabilization function being performed by the food agency during this time when spikes in prices of commercial rice affect the consumers, especially those in the marginalized sector.
A major highlight of the week-long celebration is honoring the 2017 National Best Grains Stakeholders during the 46th NFA founding anniversary on September 26 to be held at the National Meat Inspection Services Auditorium.
There will also be an exhibit of rice-based products and rice varieties at the anniversary venue.
