PhilRice, IRRI provide post-Typhoon Ompong seed support

The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have provided a seed support to farmers in San Mateo, Isabela that were affected by Typhoon Ompong, the most destructive typhoon to hit the country in years as far as the farm sector is concerned.

To be specific, the two agencies hand over a total of 3,350 kilograms (kg) of rice seeds, comprising 2,150 kg of foundation seeds of NSIC Rc 400 and 1,200 kg of registered seeds of NSIC Rc 352, to the Local Government Unit of San Mateo.

Reports show that Ompong has wrecked havoc on 5,423 rice farms in the municipality.

The seeds were specifically turned over to San Mateo Mayor Crispina R. Agcaolli by PhilRice Acting Executive Director Dr. Sailila E. Abdula.
