Piñol’s solution to high price of sili: ‘Plant your own’
If you’re a lover of spicy food and are reeling from the P1000 cost of siling labuyo in the market, Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol recently posted a suggestion on his Facebook wall. Try to plant your own.
According to Piñol, while Metro Manila is being plagued by the high cost of sili, it is drastically different in Mindanao because people plant their own sili in their own backyards. He said that it can grow even in urban areas in flowerpots if one really plans to do it. Its also pretty low maintenance too.
“When you buy Red Sili, make sure to get a few seeds, sun-dry these and plant it in flower pots.
When you gurgle in the morning when you wake up, just throw the water in the pot. Before you know it, you would just wake up one morning to see your plants adorned with Red fruits,” he said.
Piñol’s post has been met with mixed reactions from netizens with some criticizing the aggie chief for suggesting something that will be difficult for those living in apartments and dorms while there were also those who welcomed his post and pledged to try it at home. (ANGEL ONG)
