Roque to file charges vs. NFA Chief Jason Aquino
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said if no one will file a case against National Food Authority (NFA) Authority Jason Aquino over the recent rice crisis, he will.
“He made a mess out of the rice market. He contributed to the problem of inflation. He should be held liable. If no one else files, I will,” Roque said during an interview with ANC.
To recall, NFA is now being blamed for the non-stop increase in the cost of rice sold in local markets.
Critics said that it’s the fault of NFA since it failed to procure palay from farmers and instead relied on importation, which was delayed several times.
“The rice shortage, the rice problem, the high prices of rice is self-inflicted damage by the NFA and the [Commission on Audit] says so. So why shouldn’t they be held liable,” he added.
To make matter worse for NFA, the COA also flagged it for diverting P5 billion worth of subsidies that should be used to buy palay to pay its debt.
