There is no rice shortage in PH
The National Food Authority (NFA) assured the public that while the price of commercial rice has been on the rise, there is no shortage of rice in the country.
The agency issued this statement as the NFA Council approved, during its special meeting last August 29, the immediate importation of 133,500 metric tons of rice to be allocated to Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi (ZAMBASULTA) to mitigate the ongoing problem of high rice prices in these areas.
The NFA Council said the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the additional imports will be published today.
Delivery for the first 33,500 MT is set for September 15 to 30 while the remaining 100,000 MT should arrive between October 1 and November 30, 2018.
“For the meantime, the NFA shall reallocate rice stocks from neighboring NFA regional offices to the ZAMBASULTA provinces to provide consumers an alternative source of low-priced good quality NFA rice at P27 per kilogram,” NFA said.
