Food businesses shutting down, netizens reeling from the impact of TRAIN

There’s no doubt that the implementation of TRAIN has become a bane to many Filipino households as it spiked the prices of commodities in the market.

The inflation rate brought on by the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion has become so bad that several businesses are already closing because of it, most of them coming from the food industry.

A redditor recently asked fellow netizens if the TRAIN has caused them to lose their jobs and a lot have lamented that they have been adversely affected by the measure.

One of them is redditor ggvelasco who shared that several of her dad’s food carts are shutting down due to several factors. The TRAIN is one of them.

“ Plenty of food parks were closing down. Some havent even open yet. Maybe market saturation? Perhaps. But this train thing will definitely accelerate the effect on the food industry. With the implementation of train and the inflation it brought, im afraid the food industry will be even tougher to get into. Thats bad when you know it’s already one of the most less forgiving industries out there, she shared in part of her post.

Another redditor said that while she did not lose her job to TRAIN, she could not find the courage to leave her current work, which she hates because it has grown increasingly more difficult to find employment nowadays.

Another shared that her co worker is trying to make ends meet by getting a side job to support her family.

“Business is slow. We were at 5 days a week schedule. But for the following weeks starting monday, we are going to revert back to 6 days working schedule but 2 of those will be for company shutdown. So effectively, we’ll just be rendering 36hrs weekly. Some 1/3 of our salary will be deducted. Sabi nila hindi naman daw malaki ‘to kasi iba daw ang calculation. But you know, I have to prepare for the worse. Bababa ang sahod pero ang gastusin continuously na tumataas. Hindi pako pamilyado but I give a huge portion of my salary to my parents since sila din nagpapalamon at dun din ako nakikitira. Nakakahiya yung sa mga susunod kong sahod e babawasan,” another shared.

The struggle is real. (ANGEL ONG)
