Grocery story triggers essence of the dignity in helping
Poverty is a problem for many Filipinos but there are many who really try to do their best in making ends meet despite the soaring prices of goods in the market.
Facebook user Jhayr Marcos Canda recently posted a series of tweets from Twitter user BiteMe_Celina10 which told of her experience as she spotted an old man standing outside the grocery counting his money to purchase some powdered milk.
The netizen who seemed to sense that the old man was short on cash after he asked the guard repeatedly how much the item was, wanted to shell out the difference so that the man can make the purchase.
When she asked the guard to give the money to the old man, the guard told her that he too, tried to give the man money but he would not accept it. The Twitter user said that another man who was standing beside her asked if he could try his luck. The man folded a paper bill and approached the old man and said that he saw the money drop from his pocket.
The old man was surprised but denied that the money belonged to him, but the gentleman insisted that he saw it belonged to the old man until he finally accepted it.
The moral of the story, is that there should always be dignity in helping. The man saw that the old man still had his pride despite his poverty and he made sure that he would accept help without belittling his circumstance.
