NFA to import corn to prevent further increases in livestock, poultry products

Since no local trader is interested to do it, the importation of as much as 300,000 metric tons (MT) of corn, a primary ingredient to produce animal feeds, will now be led by the National Food Authority (NFA).

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that for local feed millers, who have been complaining about the rising cost and “unavailability” of locally produced corn, the NFA will now push through with the importation of the commodity.

The shortage of feeds, among others, is now one of the reasons why there has been a series of increases in the price of livestock and poultry products.
