NFA wants to conclude importation of 750,000 MT of rice by November
The National Food Authority (NFA) wants to finish all the bidding process for the importation of additional 750,000 metric tons (MT) of rice by the first week of November.
“We will slice the 750,000 MT into three [bidding]. On October 18, we will bid out the first 250,000 MT. Then two weeks after that, we will bid out the next 250,000 MT. After that, we will bid out another 250,000 MT,” NFA Spokesperson Rex Estoperez said in a Manila Bulletin report.
Estoperez said that by November, additional stocks from these importation programs should already start arriving.
NFA allotted a budget of nearly P6 billion for the first round of importation, which will be done through an open tender scheme. The pre-bid conference for this is scheduled on Friday.
Moving forward, Estoperez said the delivery of the imported rice will “spill over” in the first few months of 2019.
