PH to impose stricter rice importation rule
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said he wants to impose stricter rice importation rule, which mainly involves sending personnel abroad to inspect on the imports before they are shipped here.
Piñol said for the next importation, the country will send inspection team to the point of origin of rice imports to check on their quality.
He also shrugged off the additional cost that the government will have to spend for this.
“What is that if we are protecting the interest of the filipino consumers?” Piñol said.
Piñol said the inspection will happen after the issuance of Sanitary Phytosanitary (SPS) import clearance.
Meanwhile, he also said that the Philippine government will no longer allow the importation of fancy rice or the 15% and 5% broken rice because they are expensive.
