DA to implement SRP on rice in the province
The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) program for rice covering areas outside Metro Manila will be launched by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the National Food Authority (NFA) tomorrow in Ormoc City, Leyte.
On the same event, the DA will also start the nationwide implementation of the DA TienDA Malasakit Store Program, which would connect farmers and fishermen directly with the consumers.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, who proposed the staging of the DA TienDA Malasakit Store in Ormoc before he resigned to run for the Senate, is expected to be present during the twin event.
The NFA Council will meet today in a Special Council Meeting to set the SRP for rice to be sold in areas outside Metro Manila and the Greater Manila Area.
“With the launching of the Regional SRP, prices of rice in the different parts of the country will now be set according to the milling grade – Regular Milled, Well-Milled and Premium. Special Rice or Fancy Rice will not be covered by the SRP,” said Piñol.
The SRP program will also eliminate misleading brand names of rice sold in the market like “Senandomeng,” “Super Angelica,” “Double Diamond” and others.
