Prepare Panda Express’ signature Orange Chicken with this recipe
While Panda Express has not yet arrived to the Philippines yet, let Buzzfeed Tasty hook you up with the recipe for Orange Chicken from none other than Jimmy Wang, the director for Culinary Innovation of Panda Express.
Start off with two pounds of fresh chicken which you should cut off in one inch cubes. Make sure to use dark meat to retain the best flavor.
Next, mix in one bowl 1 tbsp of salt, 1 tsp pepper, 1 cup of cornstarch. Add 3 cups of flour for the batter. Add one egg and 1 ½ cups of water. As you mix it together, add 2 tbsp of oil, and when all the ingredients are completely incorporated, add the chicken to the batter.
Chill for 30 minutes and fry the chicken in batches. Make sure the chicken does not get overcrowded in the pan and let it fry for around 6 minutes at around 350 degree heat.
In a pan, add one tsp of vegetable oil, ¼ tsp chili flakes, ½ tsp ginger, 1 tbsp garlic, ¼ cup white sugar, ¼ cup brown sugar, and ¼ cup orange juice to give the acidic flavor of the dish. Add ¼ cup vinegar, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp water and 2 tbsp of cornstarch. Wait for the mixture to have a maple syrup like consistency.
Time to add the chicken to the mix. Add 1 tsp of sesame oil for the signature sheen in Panda Express Orange Chicken.
